The new session has been introduced to strengthen the price discovery process at the end of the trading day and provide a more transparent framework for determining closing prices of eligible securities.

Under the Closing Auction Session, market participants can place orders during a dedicated period after regular trading hours, allowing the final traded prices to better reflect market demand and supply conditions.

The initiative is aimed at bringing greater efficiency, transparency and alignment with global market practices. It is expected to provide institutional and retail participants with a more structured mechanism for executing trades around the market close.

BSE said the participation of over 400 members highlights the readiness of market participants to adopt the new system and reflects the exchange’s efforts to enhance trading infrastructure.

Market experts believe the closing auction mechanism could help reduce last-minute price volatility, improve fair price discovery and strengthen investor confidence in the equity market.

The introduction of the Closing Auction Session is part of BSE’s ongoing efforts to modernise market operations and improve the overall trading experience for investors and intermediaries.
