GTech Marathon’s Fourth Edition: From 3,000 to 10,000 Runners in Four Years

Kochi, Feb 10: What began as a modest gathering of 3,000 runners has grown into Kerala’s largest and most inclusive marathon, with over 10,000 participants registered for the fourth edition of the GTech Marathon on February 15, 2026. The remarkable growth reflects the event’s success in building a vibrant running community, with hundreds of families joining together across successive editions to champion fitness and a drug-free Kerala.

Organised by the Group of Technology Companies (GTech) under the theme ‘No to Drugs, Yes to Fitness,’ the marathon serves as a powerful platform to raise public awareness about drug abuse among Kerala’s youth. GTech Chairman V. K. Mathews emphasized that the event demonstrates how discipline through fitness can counter the drug menace confronting the state. “This marathon brings together people from all walks of life in support of a drug-free Kerala,” he said, adding that the initiative reflects GTech’s commitment to engaging with critical social challenges and will strengthen the state government’s anti-drug campaign.

The marathon offers participants a unique opportunity to run through the Infopark campus in Kochi, Kerala’s premier technology hub. This distinctive setting not only showcases the state’s thriving IT ecosystem but also serves as an inspiration for young people to pursue careers in technology while embracing healthy, active lifestyles.

A Testament to Diversity and Inclusion

The fourth edition exemplifies inclusivity, with 33% female participation—more than 3,300 women runners—significantly higher than regional marathon averages. The event has also attracted runners from 5 countries and over 650 cities across India, with participation from non-binary individuals, demonstrating the marathon’s commitment to welcoming all members of society regardless of age, gender, physical ability, or background.

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, over 300 families are participating together, making the GTech Marathon a true family affair. The oldest participant is 97 years old, while participants span all age groups from children to senior citizens. This multi-generational participation underscores the event’s appeal as a celebration of health, fitness, and community bonds.

The marathon will be conducted across four race categories: the Half Marathon (21.1 km) for participants aged 18 and above, the 10K Timed Run for ages 14 and above, and two 3K Fun Runs—one for participants aged 12 and above, and another exclusively for children below 12 years. The 10K Timed Run has emerged as the most competitive category, attracting over 2,800 runners.

United Across Sectors

The marathon has drawn participation from an extraordinary cross-section of Kerala’s society. Technology professionals from leading IT firms including TCS, UST, IBS Software, IBM, and Cognizant will run alongside personnel from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and CISF

The Kerala Police, Income Tax Department, and other government departments are well represented. Scientists and researchers from the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) and DRDO will participate, as will faculty and students from educational institutions including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Government Medical Colleges, and Government Engineering Colleges across the state.

Over 140 running clubs from across India have registered for the event, with Soles of Cochin fielding the largest contingent. This diverse participation from techies, defense personnel, civil servants, educators, healthcare workers, and running enthusiasts reflects the marathon’s role in bringing together Kerala’s entire community in a shared commitment to health and a drug-free future.

Medals will be presented to the marathon winners by Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman, in the presence of Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan, Kochi Corporation Mayor V. K. Minimol, and other eminent personalities from various fields.
