Mumbai, Oct 27: Indian stock markets ended Tuesday’s trading session on a flat note as gains in pharmaceutical and real estate shares offset losses in banking and financial stocks.
The BSE Sensex closed at 73,598.87, down 8.08 points, or 0.01 per cent. The NSE Nifty 50 settled at 22,749.75, declining 3.45 points, or 0.02 per cent.
Despite the muted performance of the benchmark indices, broader markets recorded strong gains. The Nifty Midcap 100 rose around 1 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 advanced 2.70 per cent.
Pharmaceutical, real estate and media stocks witnessed strong buying, with their sectoral indices gaining between 2 and 3 per cent. In contrast, private banking and financial services stocks faced selling pressure.
Among the Sensex stocks, Bharti Airtel, Trent, Maruti Suzuki, Power Grid Corporation and Eternal were among the top gainers. State Bank of India, Axis Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Asian Paints and HDFC Bank were among the major losers.
Market experts identified 22,600 as an important support level for the Nifty, while 22,800 remained a key resistance. A sustained move above 22,800 could help the index move towards 23,000.
Investors will continue to monitor corporate earnings, crude oil prices, developments in West Asia and signals from the US Federal Reserve for further market direction.
The session highlighted mixed investor sentiment, with selective buying supporting broader markets even as the benchmark indices remained largely unchanged.
