Coimbatore, Sep 30: Coimbatore is strengthening its position as an emerging destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), with the city potentially hosting nearly 200 GCCs by 2032, compared with more than 75 currently, according to a recent report.
A strong talent pool, established engineering capabilities and a deep-rooted manufacturing ecosystem are helping put the city on the radar of global companies looking to expand technology and business operations beyond India’s major metropolitan centres.
Coimbatore has more than 300,000 technology professionals, along with 137 engineering colleges that produce more than 30,000 STEM graduates every year. This expanding talent base provides companies with access to professionals across engineering, technology and other specialised functions.
The city’s manufacturing heritage further strengthens its appeal, particularly for businesses operating in areas such as product engineering, automation, automotive technology, industrial solutions and advanced manufacturing.
The expected growth in GCCs could generate fresh opportunities for skilled employment and attract additional investment into the city’s commercial and technology ecosystem. It could also encourage greater collaboration between companies, educational institutions and the local talent pool.
The report highlights that the opportunity is increasingly shifting beyond traditional cost advantages. Global companies are looking for locations capable of supporting innovation, research, engineering and strategic business functions.
For Coimbatore, developing specialised skills, improving infrastructure and strengthening global connectivity will be important to support this next phase of growth.
